Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 27, 2026

RingBuddy ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding that information when you use the RingBuddy mobile app or website (ringbuddy.net). By using our services, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

  • Account information — if you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and any profile details you provide.
  • Partner invite information — when you invite a partner, we collect the email address or phone number you enter so we can send the invitation on your behalf.
  • Photo uploads — if you upload a ring photo (e.g., to receive a Style Match score), that image is transmitted to and stored on our servers.
  • Contact and waitlist forms — we collect the name, email, and message you submit through our website forms.

Information Generated by Your Use of the App

  • Ring preferences and swipe history — your swipes (liked and passed rings), saved favorites, and preference selections (metal type, stone shape, budget, etc.).
  • Mode selection — whether you are using the app to purchase, receive, or both.
  • Style Match data — the inputs used to generate your compatibility score and the score itself.
  • Share link usage — when you generate or open a partner share link, we log that event along with the preference data encoded in the link.

Your account data, swipe history, and preferences are stored server-side, enabling cross-device access, partner sharing, and Style Match recommendations. All data is protected by strict access controls so only you — and your linked partner, for shared preference data — can access your records.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information — device type, operating system version, app version, and a randomly generated device identifier.
  • Usage data — screens viewed, features used, session duration, and error logs. This data is collected in aggregate and used to improve the app.
  • Push notification tokens — if you enable push notifications, your device registers a token with the platform's notification service that allows us to send you notifications.
  • Website analytics — page views, referral sources, and general traffic patterns collected via privacy-respecting analytics tools. We do not use invasive fingerprinting.
  • Affiliate click data — if you tap a link to a jewelry partner, we log that click to track referrals for commission purposes. We do not receive your payment or purchase information from the retailer.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate and deliver the RingBuddy app and website
  • To generate your Style Match score and ring recommendations
  • To send partner invitations on your behalf
  • To enable partner sharing of your ring preferences via share link or account
  • To sync your preferences and liked rings across your devices (when server sync is enabled)
  • To send push notifications you have opted into (e.g., when your partner views your shared rings)
  • To respond to your support requests and contact form messages
  • To send launch announcements and product updates to waitlist subscribers
  • To improve and train our ring recommendation and Style Match algorithms using aggregated, de-identified swipe data
  • To detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and technical errors
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes.

3. Partner Data Sharing

A core feature of RingBuddy is sharing your ring preferences with a partner. Partner sharing uses a two-step, account-to-account linking flow:

  1. You generate a short invite code and share it with your partner (via iMessage, WhatsApp, etc.).
  2. Your partner enters the code in the app and explicitly confirms the link.
  3. Only after mutual confirmation are preference data visible to each other.

Once linked, the following information is visible to your partner:

  • Your liked rings and swipe preferences
  • Your style preferences (metal type, stone shape, budget range, etc.)
  • Your Style Match score (if generated)

By initiating a partner link, you consent to disclosing this preference data to the person you linked with. You can unlink a partner at any time from the app's Partner settings, which immediately removes their access to your data.

Invite codes expire after 30 days. An unused code does not expose any data — it only becomes active after the recipient explicitly accepts.

4. Data Storage & Retention

On-device data is stored in your device's local storage. Uninstalling the app removes this data permanently.

Server-side data (accounts, synced preferences, uploaded photos, partner invites) is retained for as long as your account is active plus a reasonable period thereafter to resolve disputes or comply with legal obligations. After account deletion, we remove your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

Waitlist and contact form data is retained only until the purpose for which it was submitted is fulfilled — typically until launch notifications are sent or your inquiry is resolved.

Aggregated, de-identified swipe data used for algorithm training may be retained indefinitely, as it cannot be linked back to any individual user.

Uploaded ring photos are retained until you delete them or delete your account. If you submit a photo for scoring and do not have an account, the photo is deleted within 30 days of submission.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following types of third-party services, each subject to their own privacy policies:

Form & Email Processing

Website forms are processed by a third-party form provider. Transactional emails (partner invites, account confirmations) are delivered via an email delivery service. SMS invitations, if offered, are sent via an SMS delivery provider. Each of these services operates under its own privacy policy.

App Distribution

RingBuddy is distributed through major mobile app marketplaces. Each marketplace may collect device and usage data under its own privacy policy.

Push Notifications

Push notifications are delivered via your device's platform notification service. Your device token is shared with that service to route notifications to you.

Cloud Infrastructure & Storage

Account data, swipe history, preferences, partner links, and uploaded ring photos are stored with Supabase (database, authentication, and file storage), operating in the United States. Supabase acts as a data processor on our behalf under a Data Processing Agreement.

Form Processing

Contact and waitlist form submissions are processed by Formspree, which receives the name, email address, and message you submit. Formspree acts as a data processor under its own privacy policy.

Affiliate Jewelry Partners

We participate in an affiliate network (currently Impact). When you tap a ring in the app to shop, you are directed to the retailer via an affiliate-tracked link. The affiliate network may log the click for commission tracking purposes. We receive only commission attribution data — not your name, payment information, or purchase details.

Analytics & CDN

We use Cloudflare for website hosting and content delivery. With your consent, we may also enable Cloudflare Web Analytics to understand website usage in a privacy-respecting way (no cross-site tracking, no persistent cookies for analytics). We do not use advertising networks or sell data to data brokers.

6. Cookies & Tracking

The RingBuddy website does not set HTTP cookies. Your cookie consent preference is saved in your browser's local storage — not as a cookie — and is cleared if you clear your browser data. We do not use cookies for session state, advertising, or cross-site behavioral tracking.

Third-party services embedded in the site (forms, analytics) may set their own cookies in accordance with their respective policies. Affiliate links may result in retailers placing cookies on your browser when you visit their sites.

Because RingBuddy itself sets no cookies, disabling cookies in your browser will not affect the website's core functionality.

7. Push Notifications

With your permission, RingBuddy may send push notifications to your device, such as alerts when your partner views your shared rings or when new ring styles matching your preferences are available.

You can opt out of push notifications at any time in your device settings (iOS: Settings → Notifications → RingBuddy; Android: Settings → Apps → RingBuddy → Notifications) or within the app's notification preferences.

8. Children's Privacy

RingBuddy is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Users between 13 and 17 should use RingBuddy only with parental consent.

9. Your Rights & Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

All Users

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction — request that inaccurate data be corrected
  • Deletion — delete your account and all associated data directly in the app: Profile & Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, swipe history, preferences, partner connections, and uploaded photos within 30 days. You can also email us at privacy@ringbuddy.net to request deletion.
  • Opt-out of marketing — unsubscribe from waitlist or promotional emails at any time using the unsubscribe link in any email or by contacting us

California Residents (CCPA)

California residents have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what personal data we sell or disclose (we do not sell personal data), the right to opt out of any future sale, and the right to non-discrimination for exercising your privacy rights.

EEA, UK & Switzerland Residents (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have rights under the GDPR including access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. Our legal basis for processing your data is your consent (where requested), contract performance (to deliver the app), and legitimate interests (to improve our services and prevent fraud).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@ringbuddy.net. We will respond within 30 days.

10. Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and encryption at rest for sensitive information. Access to personal data is restricted to personnel who need it to operate and improve the service.

No system is completely secure. If you believe your data has been compromised, please contact us immediately at security@ringbuddy.net.

11. International Data Transfers

RingBuddy is operated from the United States. If you use our services from outside the United States, your data may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using RingBuddy, you consent to such transfers.

Where required by law (e.g., GDPR), we use appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses to protect data transferred internationally.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as RingBuddy evolves — particularly as we add backend features, accounts, or new third-party integrations. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you via the app or email.

Continued use of RingBuddy after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
